1. Bromopropane and furan react under alkaline conditions to generate 4-propyl -2(3H)-furan. 4-Propyl -2(3H)-furan is then reduced to Dihydro-4-propyl-2(3H)-furanone using a reducing agent such as sulfoxide or zinc dust.
2. Extracted from sweet potato by enzyme catalyzed reaction.
